CBSE exams: Despite odds, they come up trumps

CHANDIGARH: Here is a bunch of students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Sector 25, who did not let life's hardships impede their journey towards their goals.
Baby, daughter of a mechanic, has scored 86% in non-medical stream. Asserting that where there is a will, there is a way, she said, ''I am very happy that I have scored 86% despite the financial restraints.I want to be an electronic engineer and support my father, who works hard to ensure we get the best education.'' Madan Paswan, a mechanic in Industrial Area, said, ''It's tough to bear the education expenses. But I want my daughter to fulfil her dreams. God has helped us till now, and will do so in the future too.''
For Preeti, too, the going was tough. Daughter of a health department peon, she has scored 88.40% in non-medical stream. ''It's difficult to study non-medical stream without tuitions. But I had a goal ' to secure good marks and make my parents proud. And, I did not let anything come my way. I would get up early in the morning to study and then, attend school,'' she said.
Kamal Kishore Dhyani, son of a priest who has obtained 92% in arts, wants to join Indian Economic Services by clearing UPSC exam. ''With god's blessings, I have scored well. I will pursue BCom and then take UPSC exams,'' he beamed. His mother, Kanta Dhyani, a homemaker, said, ''He was always good in studies. I hope he will continue with his hard work and reach his destination.''
Prathibha Kumari, daughter of an electrician, has made her family proud by securing 90.2% in beauty and health care. She hopes to be among the country's best cosmetologists one day and run a successful beauty parlour. Her mother, Meenakshi Kumari, a homemaker, said, ''We will always support her so that she can realise her dreams.''
